While many people are just fine with only one e-mail account on their computer,
others need a few more than just one. I personally forget how many email accounts
I have, and I don't need to remember, because they all come to the same email
client.

Outlook Express allows you to have and maintain several email accounts with
the same program. This small tutorial will walk you through setting up another
account in Outlook Express.

The setup is very easy, but you need a few things before you get started. So,
get a pen and get ready to dig around in your Email Provider's help files or
make a call to their tech-support.

1. The Server Names (there are going to be two of them, one is a POP3 server,
and the other is an SMTP server). POP3 is the Incoming server and SMTP is the
outgoing server. You need both of them.

2. Your account name, and password. Some account names are just names, while
others are email addresses, make sure you have the exact name you need.

3. Lastly, you need to check to see if your account server requires a Secure
login. Secure logins are connections which are protected by SSL security. If
the connection is an SSL connection, then the client will not be able to connect
unless it first encrypts the message.

Now that we have all the information we need, we can setup a new account.

1. Go to Tools, and down to Accounts inside the Outlook Express program.

2. Click on the Add Button, and then click Mail to start the Internet Connection
Wizard.

3. The first item is your name. This is the name that Outlook Express is going
to send your email as. So if this account is "from" Church Raffle
Committee, for example, you will want to put that in there instead of your name.
Whatever name you put in there, it is a "real" name, so capitalize
it as you would wish others to see.

Click Next.

4. The Next page is for your email address. Just type it in there, check to
make sure it is correct, and click Next.

5. This next page is for the Server information you got before we started.
Fill in the spaces, with the POP3, SMTP and check the Secure Connection box
if needed.

6. Our last step is to put in your account name and password, which again you
verified before we got started.

And that is it, you are setup and ready to roll.

Several Email providers have even simpler tools available to setup your account
in Outlook Express. Google has a wizard that only requires that you put in your
account name and password, and it takes care of all the rest of the settings
for you, but really it isn't required, the setup is very simple.

Managing several email accounts at the same time can get frustrating, and in
a future article we will talk about ways of keeping up with the age of communication.
