What is PC100 RAM?

100MHz 168-pin SDRAM memory module as fitted to Pentium, Pentium II and Pentium III systems. Can generally be replaced with generic non-branded memory, though optimum performance and reliability will be achieved by using memory that has been specified as compatible with your particular PC or laptop model.
This memory can be used to replace the existing memory in the following systems:
Pentium 60, 75, 90, 100, 120, 133, 166, 200, 233MHz;
Pentium II 233, 266, 300, 333, 366MHz;
Pentium Celeron 266, 300, 333, 366, 400, 433, 466, 500, 533, 566, 600, 633, 667MHz.
This memory can be used to add to (or replace) the existing memory in the following systems:
Pentium II 300, 350, 400, 450MHz;
Pentum III 450, 500, 550, 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 1000MHz;
Pentum Celeron 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 1000, 1100MHz.
Note that, because RAM is generally “backwards compatible”, it is theoretically possible to fit extra PC133 RAM into a system that already has PC100 RAM. However, incompatibilities between brands / types and occasional motherboard problems caused by mixed memory speeds means that this isn’t completely guaranteed and is, therefore, not advised in the context of this article.
