Thanks for your response

We followed the directions until we booted in safe mode but when starting AVG received this message

Connection to Service failed. Please reinstall AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

So we went back into windows, uninstalled and reinstalled AVG

Now the option Resident Shield and Automatic Updates are not available (resident shield info button says 'not available in the free version')

Also Start with Windows is not available
