It does not destroy your computer. You may have downloaded it from a site prone to spyware and may have picked up a little booger. I too would recommend doing a system restore to the point before you installed the program.

Second option, scan for spyware using SpyBot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html - Also, try scanning for a virus. You never know what is attached to files when you download them.
