Hi all

I am running a pretty old Dell Dimension 4550 with 512mb of RAM, a P4 2.20ghz processor and windows XP pro

The other day i tried to start up my pc and it worked up until the windows XP loading screen where the bar was moving but it stayed there for ages. I tried to re-boot it but the same thing happened. I have tried to start the computer is safe mode but nothing happens, the screen goes dark and thats all. I have a reinstallation CD which came with the PC i have tried performing a system repair as shown at http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/How-t...s-XP-t138.html . I can see and navigate through all the options it is only once it starts that i am told that windows is unable to copy files. The first being hid.dll, i try to skip to the next one but that one cannot copy either. None of the files can be copied. I have cleaned the disc and even tried a disc from another dell but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
