I don't see you using an always on real-time antivirus tool. Some people think they might get away with this, but I wouldn't want to chance it.


There are some good free Antivirus programs that are decent, including AVG and Avast!.
AVG: AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista
Avast: FREE avast! antivirus 4.x Home Edition, anti-spyware & anti-rootkit for Windows


If you are overly concerned about using a lower footprint tool then you might want to consider:

NOD32 - Antivirus Software - Eliminate viruses with ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security (one month free trial)
