.wmv files are usually
associated with Windows Media Player (WMP). If WMP isn't opening/playing the file, you may need to set the file association, or you may need codecs (re)installed.

As an aside, (myself) finding WMP to be a resource
hog and too controlling, I use Media Player Classic, from K-Lite. It plays many file types without a hitch.
