Any new hardware and or software? Perhaps try a System Restore?

start All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore

Have you checked the Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Voice?

Also the Device Manager Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

Look under Sound... and also System Devices for any Yellow !
