ipod as storage for camcorder images

I have a JVC Evario MG36 hard disk camcorder. I am able to store images (files) on a PC, using the supplied software. The files are .mod

However, my laptop is too bulky for the trip I'm about to take and I'd like to use my iPod (60Gb) as an "off-line" store for files. Connecting the iPod to the camera via the iPod interface is no problem. Downloading still images (.jpeg) is the same as from a digital camera; again, no problem. But the iPod doesn't look for .mod files. The camera doesn't have any internal software to convert the files to .wav / .mpeg, etc.

Is there a way I can get the .mod files across to the iPod? Perhaps someone has done this, or knows of an interface box (has to be small)?

I don't want to replace the camera or the iPod.

Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Regards,

Micah
