StoneDogg1 Is a beginner here at D-A-L
Angry iPod Touch & XP-64 - oh God help me

So I bought my son the 8gb iPod Touch for Christmas. What a great dad I am. The kid opens it, is so excited, that at the tender age of 15, he wets himself. I sit back on the couch, oh so proud of myself for surprising him with such a gift (his mother & I played the "things are tight this year" schtick), not even bothered by the wet spot on my floor (after all, that's what rug scrubbers & wives are for, right?).

The kid fires up the pc to start transferring all of his iTunes hits over, and.....

SORRY, the iTouch doesn't work on XP-64!!!! (I probably should have researched this, but I figured that the Apple iPod was the benchmark of every other mp3 player and we had no issues with his last iPod that he is now using (without being able to add songs, but I'll get there)). Now all of a sudden - my name is MUDD.

Long story short - i go to this link:

Getting iTunes to Work with Windows XP X64 Dan’s Skunk Werks

I followed various instructions down in the comments (I downloaded the auto-running-all-inclusive program that is mentioned in the posts), got the pc to at least recognize that an imaging device was attached (which there wasn't), and followed more instructions from the thread above to turn the imaging device into the iPod Touch. TAA-DAA!!!! Many hours later, it worked.

The problem being that I did not tell my kid not to update the software.

So here it is, the end of February (I can't believe he went this long) and he updates the software. "Dad, the iTouch doesn't work."

I have no idea what to do to fix this now.

I've uninstalled everything by Apple (I think) - iTunes, Quicktime, Mobile device manager, etc...

I've tried reinstalling the package from the link above. My harware profiles do not even show the imaging device that it had before. I tried restoring my PC to a privious date. The best I was able to do was get the computer to recognize "A" iPod in emergency boot mode (?), but have not been able to achieve that since.

The iTouch itself has the screen of connecting the USB cable to the pc. When I hook it up, it's calling out a removable storage device (showing question marks in the hardware profile for the device).

Please help me get this thing running again! I really don't want to upgrade the OS to vist or back to regular XP-32bit (even though I only have 2gb of RAM) - I just got the rig runnin and acting the way I like it.

Thanks - looking forward to a reply (so is my kid).

Hi StoneDogg1...

What version is your iTunes...they say that 7.6 and up is compatible. They say that the link below works...
- Says for iTouch also - yukichigai - Making the iPhone work in XP x64 - A guide for lovers

Google hits on link above - http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/iphonex64 - Google Search

Cheers,
