HELP - lost my library!

My husband and I have an Ipod each. We accumulated lots of albums in the same library and I arranged for mine to sync only checked albums (which included some of his) and he hasn't plugged his in at all since I did mine! (He has a serparate charger).

He now has a new ipod. I didn't know how to get his music from the old ipod onto the new one (haven't tried plugging it in yet!) so I found on Apple support that said I could create a new library if I held down the shift key while loading itunes, which I did.

I now seem only to have the new library with nothing in it and can't find the original list. I'm so confused and my husband is going to throw the ipods and computer in the bin!

Do I have to create another new library for me? Can we share the music somehow? Where is the original list? Do I have to plug both ipods in to get the music back on to itunes? When do I attach the new ipod? It's probably staring me in the face but I can't see it - it's my age I think!!

I've got Windows XP.

Hope someone can help - simple instructions please, my brain hurts!
