Strange Symbols in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio

I downloaded the Management Studio from the Microsoft Website. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the English Version of the file. But still I get these strange symbols when I try to install it.

Is this only because of a different language other than English?

Thanks and Regards,

Nisar.

Re: Strange Symbols in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio

Are you sure that English is installed correctly and completely on your system? Have you tried downloading it again? Can you try it on another computer?

I'm guessing that whatever language that you d-loaded has to be installed on your system. What is your OS?

Re: Strange Symbols in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio

I'm on Windows XP (SP2)

I'm pretty sure that the language chosen was English. I remember it because, if one had to download a different language download, then he had to click on 'Change' button on the download page which I didnt. I used the default language selected which was English.

Re: Strange Symbols in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio

Well sorry I don't have much to add besides trying a different download at this point.

Those boxes just indicate that your Windows cannot interpret the character set (language).

As it goes all the way to the Windows installer you might try that cleanup utility:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
