Talking Wireless X-box controllers

I recently bought myself an all-singing, all-dancing X-box but it really needs a pair of wireless controllers to reach over the side of the lounge. I was planning to get the Logitech ones, which are about £25-£30 each but I'm having trouble finding a shop in town that's got some.

My best mate / housemate / lodger bought a couple of other controllers from Game (just branded 'GameWare') but he says they're rubbish. The response on them is so slow that he's going to take them back as he reckons they aren't worth using.

I'm sure some of you out there have got wireless controllers so have you got any recommendations of which ones I should try and get? Is it worth forking out for the proper Microsoft ones and does anyone know how expensive they are?
