so they should, it's a qualification, and while they're at it make it compulsory for all kids to take an exam in common sense as most school leavers have none at all

Re: Government's view on exams

they are still at the same level and in some cases even harder. its just the teachers are used to teaching the work, and teach the work better. there has not been a slip in difficulty. im in the middle of my a-levels so im p'off coz it is just my luck.

Re: Government's view on exams

its a lot more complicated than it appears, lots of things to consider. i am an a level student and so know first hand.

firstly, a L O T of people dont take that fact that teaching methods have improved (both lower school to create a good "foundation" for learning and at a level), students and teachers have more resources available to them meaning they can learn more and more easily.

as well as all this, the a level is an "a/s level plus an a2 level". if people pass at as then its likely theyre going to pass at A2 and so continue studying that sunject (hence high pass rate).

if people fail at a/s, they arent likely to carry it on and so will do something else but the few that do are likely to fail and this is where the fails come from.

this is still a V E R Y simplistic consideration of toughness of a levels, a lot more research has to be done; eg/are kids brighter? are they more aware (news/tv/etc)?

final bit now, geography is a sure pass (just colouring in pics)
drama/media/film studies are sure passes (simple)
IT is also a sure pass (unless you E A T your mouse)

maths/eng is CRAZY hard (although maths is hard)
history/psychology/languages are also hard

id be glad to here your comments

Re: Government's view on exams

i agree djdk, the ict a level is worth nothing, i did it at as level, and learnt absolutly nothing so i dropped it, i learnt more just playing about with my pc, and from you guys!.

on the some of the other a levels are hard enough already, my theatre studies a level nearly killed me!. some need to be made harder( ie sociology, which you can pass having never done any work or turned up to a single class), others are fine as they areas they are, in my opinion, i did 6 A levels in total.

i think the reason why people are getting better at a levels is that teachers are getting more used to the structure and so are getting better at teaching the subject, we have more past papaers to go by now, so students also have somthing to go on, and can see what sort of work gets an A, B , C etc. and maybe, just maybe, students are working harder as more of them want to get int oa good university?

oh and blibedy blob. i did 6 A levels, Biology Psychology Ict Art General Studies and Theatre studies, and theatre was by far the hardest and the most work out of all my subjects, my friend did Biology Physics Maths English and theatre( odd combination i know!), and also agreed it was the hardest exam she took... so dont say its a sure pass! (claires a bit sensitive about everyone presuming that a theatre studies is easy to pass, as it requires the most hourage out of any subject, and your expecting to write better essays than an a level english student, which i think is stupid)
