At tech today I was just about to save my work when I heard,a bang saw a flash and smelt burning, the monitor went blank.
I've never been using a PC when that's happened before. (it made me jump)
Do you think my work will be saved?
Will the PC be OK for next time ?

That sounds bad to me.... anything banging, flashing or smoking coming from the pc points toward a major failure of a component in one respect or another. Do you know if it came from the monitor or the actual base unit?
It was the base unit the monitor had gone to standby.
they were old PCs half in the college have been replaced, this one will not be going to be recycled now..

Well, I can tell you from personal experience that if you let the smoke out of the PC, it wont work any more...didnt you know these were Smoke powered?
