A Fate Worse Than Death.
Two businessmen got talking in the bar at Perth Airport when their flight east was delayed. They introduced themselves as Devenish and Lane, talked about the weather and the football, and after a few drinks Lane excused himself for a couple of minutes.
When he returned from the mens room Devenish noticed that he was wearing a different wedding ring than before. Lane laughed and said he was imagining it, but Devenish continued to press the question, and eventually Lane admitted that he had changed rings. Suddenly very gloomy, Lane confessed to Devenish that he led a double life with families on opposite sides of the country.
Devenish could hardly believe what he was hearing. 'That's the most insane thing I've ever heard! What were you thinking? Do you know the penalty for bigamy?'
Lane began to weep.
'Sure do, mate,' he sobbed. 'Two wives.'
