Re: start in safe mode
Repeatedly tap the F8 key after the BIOS POST or computer Logo screen but Before Windows starts to load.
What is your Operating System?
Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

Can you boot into XP at all?
If so you can access your accounts via:
start/run control userpasswords2
Or you can try Safe Mode to do the same.
Remove all checks on require passwords etc.
If you do not have the permission to do this then you are not logged in as an Administrator.
To log on to Windows using the Administrator account:
1. Click Start, and then click Log Off.
2. Confirm that you want to log off in the Log Off Windows dialog box by clicking Log Off.
3. When the Log On to Windows screen appears, type the administrator user name for your PC (the default is “Administrator”) and the password you assigned to the administrator account when you set up your PC.
Note: If you do not see a place to enter this information, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE twice to display the Log On to Windows screen, and then log on as Administrator.
4. Click OK.

Re: start in safe mode
If angus is an Administrator Account then just put it in plus your password.
It appears that angus is not an Administrator Account.
So when you see Administrator just press Enter
If no one set an Administrator password then you will be logged into the default Administrator Account.
If pressing Enter does not let you in then someone has created an Administrator Password.
At this point you need to find that someone and hence the password or reinstall XP.
