Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

Yep It is there. Goes to iexplore.exe at the end of the line. Thanks again for the thoughts.

I still need to get an email into Outlook Express that has a link in the body to see if it will open. When I checked on that yesterday there was nothing to click on since I use Outlook.

What about taking the XP Ofice cd and seeing if I can reinstall Outlook. Would I lose anything? Maybe the settings would be back to normal if there is where the problem comes from.

Rick

Rick, just to clarify - you are using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP aren't you?

I've been looking at the Microsoft websites and apparently it's some sort of bug.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using?

Yes XP PRO on 2003 from MS Office. Will check the version of IE in a short when I get home. More later. Thanks for doing some digging. Nice to know that I may not be crazy.

Rick, try re-installing Outlook, I don't know weather you will lose any data though. It might be worth backing up your mail folders just in case. Then re-install Internet Explorer 6. Then download the service pack 1 for IE6 and the service pack 2 for Office XP.

IE6 Service Pack 1 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Office XP Service Pack 2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

After their both installed, restart your PC then start IE and click on tools, internet options, programs tab and click the "reset web settings" button.
Make sure the "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is checked and then apply and ok.

If at any time it comes up with "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?" - obviously click YES!

Then restart your PC again start Outlook and send yourself an email with a link in it and let me know what happens. Don't try testing it with old mail as they will contain old values.

Fingers crossed!!

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

Thanks
Sounds like a weekend project to do. Will let you know how it works out. Do you know off hand just where the mail data files are located on XP. That would save me some time.
When you say reinstall do you want me do it over the existing program? Unistalling would make me lose all kinds of goodies.
Do I find IE6.0 on the net? Is it on a disk? Outlook 2003 I think is on my XP Office disk.

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

To back-up your mail folders in Outlook, click file, and export. Then select export to a file and click next. Then click personal folder file and just follow the rest of the steps in the wizard - it's dead easy. You can then import it back later.

I suppose ideally un-installing then re-installing would be the best thing to do (as is could be one of these "goodies" that's causing the problem) but if your can't be arsed, I suppose just re-installing over your original files may do the trick. If at any point you get the chance to "repair" your old installation - take it.

Internet Explorer is on your XP Pro disk. You may have to run Windows update in order to get it back up to version 6 and then install the service pack.

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

Hey guys, I was looking in google for this exact same problem and came across this thread.

I was looking down and noticed that you had installed Firefox on your computer, as have I. So I changed IE to check if it was the default and then told it to be and it fixed all the problems. I think this is Bill Gates being annoying and not allowing his software to play with anything not MS Hope that helps.

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

I had the same problem. Also my fix was to repair office and to make ie my default browser again with the checkbox squared in stead of firefox.
