Error Message on Outlook 2003

I am using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 on a home computer. Whenever I click on any link in an email I get this message... "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system adminstrator." I have to copy and paste in IE to get to that link. I was able to just click and go to the site before after IE started up.

What setting have I chicked that prevents Outlook 2003 links from being allowed to start up Internet Explorer? Would this be a security setting issue?

Thanks for your ideas.

Hi, I don't use Outlook 2003 but...try right clicking on your EI icon and to properties then select the security tab and set it to low, then in Outlook go to tools, options, security tab again and make sure the zone is set to internet under secure content, then forward yourself a new message with a link in it and restart your pc.

Hopefully that might work!

Gabriel I tried lowering the setting to low as you suggested. Same message poped up again. Thanks for the idea but I still can not start IE by clicking on a link in an email. I am blocked by some computer setting somewhere. Any body else have an idea how to break this vise grip on getting to links?

What sort of user account do you have, are you the sole user / administrator of your PC? Do you have more than one internet browser installed on your PC, and does the same thing happen if you try and use Outlook Express?

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

I am the only name on XP when it starts. My family does use it.

Good question about browsers.. I did install Firefox before this fun started. I am at the office now and can not see if any parts of the program are still around. I might have deleted it and gone back to IE. I will check it out.

I will have to try Outlook Express out when I get back home tonight and let you know.

Thanks. More later.

Another wild stab in the dark here, but try holding down the shift key when you click on a link, this should open up the "locate link browser" then find your explorer.exe file and click ok / open.

Let me know if it gives you the same error.

Gabriel
I checked on the Firefox browser. No can find it. Tried holding the shift key before clicking, nothing opened up. Real strange! Thanks for your suggestions however.

Re: Error Message on Outlook 2003

Are you using an XP office pack on an older version of Windows say 98 or 2000?

Go to your run command prompt and type: regedit. Then try and find the following file using the drop down boxes...

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell \open\command

Let me know if it's there or not
