error in opening a file

hi,
a ppt file is getting opened in one PC & the same file is not opening in another pc with the error message "system is not able to open for part of the file is missing" . What could be the reason for this type of error.

Thanks in advance.

Re: error in opening a file

Sorry you got no response for this. Do both PCs have the same version of Power Point installed?

Re: error in opening a file

On a similar thought, you might find unusual behaviour like this if the PPT file is on a network drive and you are logging on to each PC as a different user, one of which only has 'List' permissions and not 'Read' and 'Execute' permissions to that network folder.

Re: error in opening a file

Can you send it to a 3rd PC? That might tell us if the problem is with PC1 (where the file was created) or with PC2. If PC3 can open it, PC2 has a problem. If PC3 cannot open it, that points back to PC1.

So just to recap:
1. You have a PowerPoint file that you created on your PC and you can open it and view it just fine.

2. You send this ppt file to several people and some of them can open it just fine, but others cannot.

3. All computers have the same version of Power Point installed.
Is the above correct?

Was the file originally saved to a removeable disk? That seems to be a common theme in the references I have seen. If so, try saving doing a save as and save it to a local drive, then send it to other PCs and see what happens.

Are all computers at the same service pack level? Are any using Power Point Viewer? See MSKB Article 828041 (again, talks about removable disks).

Are there links in this PPT file that go to other files, in particular, to spreadsheets or a Word document? If so, were are they located?
