Recover Documents saved from Win98 Word/Works to WinXP Word Excel

Due to some disabling Med Problems I have vast Nedical Files the are currently stored on DVD's the originated thru Win98 Word/Works Programs. I have upgraded to WinXP, with the Word/Excel prograns. Is there any easy way to transfer these Documents to the new WinXP Programs. If I have to redo this information it will take me forever as the info is quite extensive, and formated into forms that I could update as needed. (I have at least 5 MD's, plus related labs, etc)
My latest Med. problem is Cataracts, which are getting worse & making it very difficult to see the PC screen.
I have come accross R & L program, which is quite expensive.......and due to my current sight problem, hard to read instructions.

It would be wonderful if there were a person in my area (Pasadena, CA) who was knowledgable in these areas that I could contact. I would pay for their services. (Of course I dont have much $$$, as we all don't)

I appreciate any input...

What was the exact Works version under '98?

What is your current Office version under XP?

There are many Office support and troubleshooting sites but they mostly depend on specific versions.

Also have you tried the Accessibilities features under XP? There is a magnifier as well as a few other tools: start > All Programs > Accessories > Accessibility

That is good. I will see what I can find and post back.

Basically we need Import/Export instructions from Works 2000 to Office 2002.

Here is just a start:

Works Suite: Upgrading to Word 2002

This one has a YouTube you might want to kill the sound. Otherwise some interesting links.

Importing Microsoft Works (.wps) files into OpenOffice - Userful

Such as:

Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Anyway just throwing out things I am finding.
