downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

I recently downloaded a driver from a post, but I don't know if that is the correct driver, or how to use the driver. The computer I use is stuck in 16 color, 640 by 480 pixels mode, and it says my graphics card is the Standard Display Adapter (VGA) (as well as my Default Monitor). I know this isn't my actual graphics card/default monitor, but I don't know what it used to be, and don't know how to find that information. Here is my Hardware Information:

Download Everest from here http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...ng=en&pageid=1 its free. It will give you a detailed description of whats on your system so we can see if you have the right driver.

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

The driver I had downloaded was S3 SAVAGE4 2X AGP 3D Graphics Card. The driver Everest says I have is S3 SAVAGE/IX+MV (86c294). I don't know where to look for the driver, and even if I did and I downloaded the driver, I don't know how to get it to work. Any help would be great.

http://ranger.s3graphics.com/swlib/2...license=accept You can download it here after accepting the user agreement then just run it to update the drivers.

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

Sorry I took a while to respond. My computer suffered a Spyware attack, but Spybot took care of that. Now, I downloaded the driver, but I don't know what you mean when you say to run it. It came in a compressed folder ad in it, I couldn't find something to run. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

You need to "un-zip" the file you downloaded then run (click) the install.exe

If you don't have a "un-zipper" this program offers a 21 day free trial

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

What install.exe file? I opened the driver in WinZip, and looked at the contents, and there isn't any install.exe files. These are what it says is in the driver folder:
Dvideo.dll, Gtf.dll, Metal.dll, MXICD.dll, Rfmdd.dll, Rfmk2v.dll, Rfmvxd.vxd, S3duochs.hlp, S3duocht.hlp, S3duodan.hlp, S3duodeu.hlp, S3duoenu.hlp, S3duoesp.hlp, S3duofin.hlp, S3duofra.hlp, S3duoita.hlp, S3duojpn.hlp, S3duonld.hlp, S3duonor.hlp, S3duoptb.hlp, S3duosve.hlp, S3duovue.cfg, S3duovue.dll, S3gamchs.hlp, S3gamcht.hlp, S3gamdan.hlp, S3gamdeu.hlp, S3gamenu.hlp, S3gamesp.hlp, S3gamfin.hlp, S3gamfra.hlp, S3gamita.hlp, S3gamjpn.hlp, s3gamma.cfg, s3gamma.dll, S3gamnld.hlp, S3gamnor.hlp, S3gamptb.hlp, S3gamsve.hlp, s3uninst.exe, S3vdd7.vxd, s3_7.cat, S3_7.dll, S3_7.drv, Smx5333.inf, Vgartd.vxd, Vpm.drv, Vpm105.dll, Vpm110.dll.

These are all the files I see in the driver's folder. The .dll files are Application Extensions. The .vxd files are Virtual Device Drivers. The .hlp files are Help Files. The .cfg files are CFG Files. The only .exe file is the s3uninst.exe, and that appears to be the uninstall not install application. The .cat file is a Security Catalog. The .drv files are DEvice Driver files. And the .inf file is Setup Information. Those are the only files in the folder, so what am I supposed to do?

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

sorry for the confusion...

another way to try would be to re-download the driver Not choosing Save but Open & hopefully WinZip will open it & set it off.

That didn't work. Maybe it's the wrong driver?

Re: downloaded a graphics driver, don't know what to do.

What was the exact ID of your card (not driver) from everest? Under Display; PCI/AGP Video

S3 SAVAGE/IX+MV (86c294) ?

Although the above driver does not appear to be an exact match it is as close as I think you will get for ME as the card is no longer updated.

Perhaps someone else will have a clue as to how to load it.

.........................
Ok ... here is another approach ... open device manager and click your card then update driver then follow the prompts to select your own driver & browse to the file that you have downloaded.
