Sidewinder force feedback

I have had a Microsoft force feedback joystick for a few months now and loved it. Only now I have a slight problem. Windows XP does NOT support this joystick!!! Does this take the P**S or what. Does anyone know about this problem and whether there is a work around for this. Any help would be appreciated. I can't afford another 100 pounds for the new one!! Please hep me before I throw it against a wall!!

Re: Sidewinder force feedback

Found this on another forum, don't know if it will work but worth a try.

Try this: go into Settings/ Control Panel in the Start menu. Select Game Controllers from the list (If you can't see Game Controllers in the list select "Switch to Classic View" at the top left of the screen then select Game Controllers from the list). Select Add in the dialogue box which appears. From the list that appears select Microsoft Sidewinder (auto-detect). Click OK and exit your way back out. After doing all this, sure enough my computer has detected my Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback joystick. Unfortunately, I haven't yet re-installed any programs which use it yet so I don't know how well it works.

The impression I get is that the only driver compatible with XP we will get for this joystick is the one that comes with XP. Hope this is of some help to you.

Then again it might not, read here. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/si...nxp_compat.asp

Re: Sidewinder force feedback

Will try that tonight. At work at the moment. I have a horrible feeling that it wasn't on the XP list when I looked. Have already tried out, installing as 2-axis 4-button joystick and can't remember it being there (found this idea on another site didn't work though). Will look tonight though. Is your a USB version or old fasioned gameport?
