Toshiba
Hey People,
I had a system crash on my Toshiba laptop, did a re-install of XP and was wondering if I should get all the Toshiba stuff back.
When the comp boots I still get the Toshiba page but really have none of their stuff on the sys now.
Stuff I may need like the touch-pad and that? I am using a USB wireless mouse now but just in case?
What do you suggest? The Toshiba site is not a lot of help....
Thanks!

Re: Toshiba
TY jephree!
You walked me thru the problem with the thing the other day and I appreciate it.
TBIOS cannot be found, or so it says when I try to install things now. But it shows up in the system? Something is corrupt but what?

Re: Toshiba
The only real danger is a power failure. If that were to happen then you'd need to return the laptop to rebuild the BIOS.
For other options please describe the problem in more detail.
You go to load a driver, the touchpad (for example), and you get an error that reads: TBIOS cannot be found?
Is that the full verbatim error message? And this happens with all Toshiba drivers?

Re: Toshiba
OK! I ran it and got everything up to par again,TY!
Then the thing crashed again, I had a message that there may be a HDD problem so I tried to run CHKDSK and see if it could find something. Is it normal for it to take 8 hours to get to 63%? Or is that an indicator of a problem? It didn't find anything bad to that point.

Re: Toshiba
No that is not normal by any means. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes max. What command were you using with CHKDSK? chkdsk /f? or /r?
It does appear that you have a hard drive problem. What was the verbatim message?

Re: Toshiba
I ran it on reboot with /f and /r both, it's fast enough till it gets to Stage 5 then it slows down. This is from MSN, "If you use chkdsk /f on a very large disk (for example, 70 gigabytes) or a disk with a very large number of files (for example, millions of files), chkdsk might take a long time (for example, over several days) to complete. The computer is not available during this time because chkdsk does not relinquish control until it is finished."
When I ran just "chkdsk" from cmd it was finished in no time at all, 3-4 mins maybe, but the cmd window flashed a message too fast for me to read and was gone so I have no idea what it said. I did run the util thing and it said the disk was clean if that helps?

Re: Toshiba
I have never heard of such a thing as the MSN quote.
/r runs into the 4th and 5th steps as /f stops after 3.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true
I run this on 500GB drives in a matter of minutes.
Anyway it is normal for chkdsk to run and flash at the end and turn off. There is no report outside of what you can watch on the screen during the process.
Try /f alone. This should only run through 3 steps. /r goes to 4 & 5.
