NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
I bought my laptop from Cyberpowerpc.com expecting it to be able to run FFXI... a game that came out in like, 2001.
It can't.
Apparently, I need a specific driver to run the game. From NVIDA, it's 169.17. The only problem with that is they don't make laptop drivers.
I tried Laptopvideo2go and found the one I need. When I try to install it I get an error with something a long the lines of "You do not have the the correct hard ware... etc"
I have no idea what to do and I need my FFXI fix.
I'm Vista 32bit, fyi.
Thanks in advance

Re: NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
What is the exact make and model of the laptop?
What is the current driver?
You need to uninstall the existing driver first.
Quick Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&n...17&btnG=Search
The manufacturer of the laptop should have the drivers specific to that laptop.

There is the laptop I own from the website I purchased it from. If you want to take a look around the website and find the driver you can, but I've had no luck.
I think they rely on outside sources for their drivers... I tried giving them a call but no one was on Tech Support. Kind of a kick in the balls because they advertise 24/7 tech help.
-.-
Also, how exactly do I uninstall my old driver?

Re: NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
Hello!
I use laptopvideo2go for my laptop graphics card driver. I'm not using the latest and am running on XP, but one thing you might not have tried is the .inf enhancer at the website. They can change the .inf so that the graphics card driver installs and runs on your laptop's graphics card. No guarantee that it will run fine or anything though.
You can uninstall your graphics card driver by
Right Click on your Desktop> Properties> Settings> Advanced> Adapater> Properties> Driver> Uninstall

Re: NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
Cyberpower links to the nvidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Run the nvidia scan and see what comes up:
Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products
You could also try the 8600GT driver.
With Nvidia drivers you need to remove them from the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

I've already tried those and they don't work.
The problem is I don't just "need a driver" I need a specific one.
I need this one:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_Fi...downloads.html
This is the error I get when I try to install.
:/
Edit:
If you can't read it, it says "The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Re: NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
Did you remove your current nVidia driver prior to trying this install?
If yes and you still get that error I can only suggest as they say that driver does not match your hardware.
Unfortunately if that is the case there is not much you can do.
I have never seen a specific game require a specific driver.
Especially what would now be considered a "downgrade".
What version is your current driver?
What happens when you try to play this game?

Re: NVIDIA 8600m GT 512mb Driver!
I think the problem is that laptop graphic drivers are usually quite a number of versions behind the latest ones. And the nVidia site does not cater specifically for laptops, so more often than not laptop users have to go to their laptop's company's site to get the drivers and they may not be sufficient or updated.
Bummer ain't it?
