Question Gateway 6955 lap w/audio problems

Ok this all started when this laptop gained a nasty virus. So I had to wripe the drive and reinstall windows. With the laptop it has xp media w/roll-up 2. I reinstalled the files they asked for in the set-up such as the third party extentions for the setup because of it being a Satadrive.

-I went to the Gate way website and installed all the missing drivers.
1.) when i was all done the sound drivers had the yellow ? mark. So I went Gateway to install the drives.
2.) now it shows the driver is workin fine but when i go to sounds it says "No Device"

-sound card is motherboard mounted (Sigmatel 9250) even tried the update thru Microsoft,Gateway, and Intel

Any help would be nice thanks and if u need anymore info let me

Also the chip set for it is updated as far i have seen on gateway and other site.

Re: Gateway 6955 lap w/audio problems

Have you SP2 or SP3? If not get at least SP2. I'd recommend SP3.

Just by the way this issue is widely posted.

Another source:

http://support.gateway.com/support/d...Sigmatel&st=kw

Here is another idea:

Quote:
Download the drivers you need. Put them on your desktop. Now go to your device manager, (right click "my computer" to to properties, hardware tab, and click on device manager.)

Find your sound card. Right click and uninstall it. Windows will tell you to reboot. Go ahead and reboot. When windows XP starts it should say found new hardware. When it asks about installing drivers, don't let windows find the drivers for you. You do it. Browse to your desktop and point to the drivers you have there.
