cd drive

when i put in any discs into my laptop, it simply wont recognize them. how do i establish what is wrong? and whta can i do ?

Hey, ive been having similar problems with my pc. If you are running XP (and probably vista aswell) go to your control panel, then click system and select the hardware tab. There should be a button called device manager. When you click on that a list of hardware devices should appear. Click on your cd drive and you should either get a 'device is working properly' or an error code. If you get an error code, look it up on a trouble shooter. If that doesnt work you could always try updating the drivers online, though i doubt that will work to be honest
