Sound Card Installed but no sound. Multimedia Audio Controller with a Question mark.

Hello this is my first time here i have a problem with my Sound.

Ok so i have a custom built PC, and recently its been losing a lot of hard drive space, i found out that windows xp gets a lot of security updates which are not needed and take up space, so i carried onto delete them, i also deleted a few other things i thought i didnt need and in the process accidentally made me lose sound. heres a Belarc Report.

i have a question mark over Multimedia Audio Controller, and i have looked around to see if i have a cd for it but cant find it, heres a belarc report and my device manager.

I remember recently deleting SigmaTEL sound from my PC, and since then the sound aint worked, or maybe i have too many sound controllers and they are conflicting??

Still been trying for days now to get it back but no luck.. starting to miss my music, if anyone can help me to find this SigmaTel sound for my system then that would be great.

Also do you think i should just make a system restore, uninstall all my audio controllers and start over? If it may make it worse ill leave it alone but it was just a suggestion from a friend.

Also my sound device is actually a Phillips PSC724 and i did download the drivers for it twice, and installed it properly, but it did nothing, help me please

Re: Sound Card Installed but no sound. Multimedia Audio Controller with a Question ma

Seems you have deleted some system files and caused no sound.

Have you got any other error loading the windows?

Here are a couple links that may help you out:

http://www.liutilities.com/affcb/?id...f=2681&xat=gen
Unknown Device Identifier - Freeware Download

The first link will lead you to the online free driver scan web site and the other is for the unknown device identifiers, although is for "unknown" device, you may still try that.

The other way you can try is open the PC case and look for the mainboard manufacture and the model number and look for the drivers from the manuf web site, your onboard sound card driver should on the list.

Hope this helps!
Bill

Hi, SigmaTEL was the thing that broke it SigmaTEL covers a few products, including AC'97, which, if its an XP machine, you probably have.

Here is a link to the driver for the SigmaTEL intel ac'97:
SigmaTel Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - SigmaTel Codec Driver Download

However, try the link that "PcTestCard.com" gave you, the first one, as it may be able to fix it with a bit less hassle if it can do it for you
