Exclamation Nvidia Geforce 7900GT/GTO driver causing windows not to boot

Hello,

PCpitstop informed me I had a couple of outdated drivers.

PC Pitstop OverDrive Tests Overview <test results

D-A-L Computer Hardware Scan Results

So I went to Nvidia and them search for the appropriate drivers for my machine even though I know my card is a 7900GTO. Downloaded their recommended Oct .5 2009 7900GTO driver. Installed and rebooted. On reboot I got passed the Windows loading screen then nothing happened. Rebooted again and nothing but a black screen. I did a system restore tried to write you you guys and I got the blue screen of death. So right now I'm on my second attempt at write you this.

Also I can't find any Ceative sound card drivers at all

damn damn damn!

Any help would be much appreciated thanks, Odd

Correction on my last post

"Installed and rebooted. On reboot I got passed the Windows loading screen then nothing happened"
I meant I got a black screen. I waited about 10 minutes still black.

You should never update drivers without a specific reason.

Nvidia might be an exception if you are a gamer as they do updates regularly for newer games.

You also need to uninstall Nvidia drivers before installing new ones.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

I can boot into safe mode,

I am a gamer and I thought updating my driver might solve my problem I am having with my video playback in Sony Vegas 9. A 400 dollar program!

You can see the post I made about that here: Please help-video colors are all wrong in my Sony Vegas Pro 9

Re: Nvidia Geforce 7900GT/GTO driver causing windows not to boot

Did you uninstall your old driver first?

If not you need to.

Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > NVIDIA > Graphics Only

Then try a reinstall.

Re: Nvidia Geforce 7900GT/GTO driver causing windows not to boot

It appears to be stable, uninstalled then reinstalled with the new drivers. I thought that was only when switching cards but I guesstimate wrong.

Thx, Jephree

No problem. Glad all is well.

Graphics drivers always need uninstalling before updating.

Let us know if we can help further in the future.
