Hello,

This is my first post on this forum, but I have been reading it for a couple of weeks.

About two weeks ago, I suddenly got the dreaded red x over my audio device icon & the message that "No Audio Output Device installed".

Until a couple of days ago, the red cross was intermittant, I could generally get the device to work by starting up in safe mode, restarting normally, hibernating, resuming and then running microsoft fix-it. Obviously not ideal but it would work for a bit.

Over the last couple of days, this is no longer working. I now have the red cross all the time.

So far I have:
System Restored - back to before the problem started.
Tried to install new drivers from HP website but it says ERROR - Driver Installation Failed:no Device can be found for this driver

I have read through this forum, other fora and noaudiooutput.com but most of the fixes involve being able to locate the audio device in the Device manager either in Safe or Normal mode. Mine is not showing up even in safe mode. I can't help thinking this is still the same issue that lots of people have with Vista and not hardware but maybe I'm wrong

I have an HP Compaq Presario V6642EA Notebook PC and am running Vista Home Premium.

Any ideas and advice would be gratefully received!

Thank you
Kathryn
