Angry wireless router/sharing broadband connection

Hiya, have recently been trying to connect another pc to my own using a cable in order to share the connection, but have since found out that another method is to use a wireless router. Am now wondering if anybody knows of one which actually connects to the modem itself, therefore allowing both computers to use it (unlike using the cable, where the computer with the connection would need to be switched on whenever the other pc needed net access)?? Any help would be very much appreciated,

Hannah

Re: wireless router/sharing broadband connection

Hey Hannah, welcome to D-A-L,

Yep you could get yourself a router which both PC's can be plugged into, have you looked in smoewhere like PC world? The router will allow you to connect to say your broadband internet connection but have both PC's effectively networked via the router and allow both to access the internet.

Re: wireless router/sharing broadband connection

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Yeah have tried PC world, they generally weren't much help (they sold us the cable without mentioning there was a wireless option :|) I have been looking to buy online but I don't actually know what I'm looking for to do the said job (the descriptions say modem router etc but as far as I know they could just be ones that need the main computer on for the other pc to be able to connect) so I was hoping someone could give me a name or something to search for
Thanks,
Hannah

Hi Hannah,

Sorry I've been out all weekend! I'll have a look and see if I can find the right thing for you...unless you have found one already?

Re: wireless router/sharing broadband connection

Hey Han,

Sorry for the delay, are you interested in wireless or are you happy to just hard wire the PC's? If you have PC's in different rooms it might be worth spending a bit more and getting a wireless router. You can then purchase wireless network cards for each PC but this can get expensive. heres a starter to show you some varying routers whichw ill do what you need but it depends a lot on whether you want wireless or not. http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/
