adsl routers and virgin.net

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help me, I have been a virgin.net subscriber for a number of years and have used there "alcatel"" adsl modem I did have two computers connecting to the internet.
I now have a third computer and have installed straight through cables and have invested in a router, 4 port switched type.
My questions are,

1 In the set up the router is asking for the type of operating modes virgin.net supplies.examples include PPPoE+NAT PPPoA+nat....

2 has anyone connected to virgin using a router if so what values did "you " use

3 Included in the set up is a screen which asks for host and domain names, any ideas ifI should be completing these

4 then a screen for atm vc parameters

I know that this might be a bit "techie" but I'm an enthusiastic learner with only a basic knowledge, I have been searching the internet ad came across this site in the hope that I may find the answers, BTW I had contacted Virgin by email but the request seems to have fallen of deaf ears !!

Brian.

Talking Re: adsl routers and virgin.net

it,s no problem, if anyone does need tp knowand I should have posted this earlier

the operating mode is pppoa+nat

my router also had the other preset values and I found a link on the virgin.net forum, a little program that alters your computers connection speed.

www.virgin.net/announcements/broadband/mtu.html

if anyone else finds themselves in the same position as me, this really works.

oh, and don't forget to power down your computer.

Br41ns.

Re: adsl routers and virgin.net

hey br41ns

i have been a virgin.net customer for sometime and was given a speedtouch 330 ADSL MODEM. since it has a USB output hence it can only fit into one PC. i have foud my old speedtouch 510 MODEM whic his also a router and am trying to get it going.

i can view the settings of the speedtouch 510 and have changed the login and password of the 510.

i guess i have to change the dial up networking rules, and have to specify a different point of presence, i cant find that in the settings.

at the moment, the configuration is set to

region: UK
provider: All
Service Name: Dynamic Address
Service Description: PPPoA, UK Settings, NAPT, DHCP, DNS

i can setup a configuration file to upload

can you tell me how to change my settings so that the speedtouch 510 works with virgin.net, i was previously with eclipse
