Computer keeps disconnecting from internet

I have a laptop computer that is hooked up to a Belkin wireless router using a Belkin card in the laptop. The router is connected to a dsl modem. Laptop running XP Home Edition

I have a laptop computer that is hooked up to a Belkin wireless router using a Belkin card in the laptop. The router is connected to a dsl modem. Laptop running XP Home Edition

1-2 times a day the dsl connection quits loading web pages. A can still see the router be entering it's IP address and I can still see the dls modem using its IP address. But know we pages load. I have reset the modem and the router through the IP address connection, but still no internet pages load.

I need to restart the laptop to make the problem go away.

When I am having this probel, I have hooked up a second computer to the router using a wire connection and am able to load internet pages without problem.

I thought the problem was the router, but since I can see the modem past it, I am not sure. And if the problem was the modem, I do not think the second computer would connect.

My guess is I have a setting wrong on the computer, any ideas.

Do you need to restart the laptop or will simply disconnecting/ reconnecting clear it up?

Here are some general suggestions:

1. Control Panel > Internet options . Connections > Settings > Advanced:
Remove the ticks from both of the 'Disconnect if Idle for...' boxes.

2. Fast User switching also causes some of these problems...I've seen it in XP where it causes a drop of internet connection before.

3. Turn off screensavers. Use the "Turn off monitor" feature instead.

I need to shut down or restart the laptop, restarting the connection at the modem or router does not fix it.

I will try turning off thescreen saver first, then try the other suggestion if that does not work

Have you tried running the laptop wired instead of wireless?

I tried wireless and hardwired, and I tried straight into the router, all have the same problem, but only with the laptop. MY desk top works fine. (Laptop is XP home, Desktop is Win 98)

I now have found out that the problem does not require a reboot of laptop, if I keep making web page requests the problem goes away after about 5 minutes. I am not sure if the request of web pages has anything to do with it or if the five minutes wait is the fix.

It looks as if my laptop gets in a lost state, or the web doesn't know how to get the pages routed back to my laptop.

Is there some sort of return address that my laptop uses when it sends out web requests that might be messed up.

I have Exactly the same thing.. belkin router.. the ponly way is to restart the laptop, logging off doesn't fix it either.. any one have any other ideas?

You will not be suprised to know my laptop has the same problem and I am using a Belkin router. However, the other computer in the house connects fine and I have a PSP that can connect without any problem. However, if you go into wireless settings for your netwrok and simple click OK to leave, your connection is re-established.

This problem first occured for me, when I switched the router and modem off one night. I usually leave them on, so the next morning when i switched them back on the problems began. However, as I mentioned before all of the other computers work fine.

As I dont have a belkin wireless card in my laptop, it leads me to beleive a problem lies with the router.

If I find out a way to fix this I will let you guys know.
