Hi All,
I hope this is not too confusing. Any help would be great. I had a working network of two pc's and then I got this new Dell pc. I moved the old pc in my office to another location and hooked up the new Dell where my old office pc was. The Internet connection I have is a LAN powered by a Verizon Fiber Optics modem 2Mb up and 15Mb down. All the pc can connect to the Internet. From the Fios Modem I have run a cat 5 connection to a Vonage VoIP device that gives me Internet telephone capability. From this device I am also able to hook up the other two pc's. The new Dell and the old pc that is in our front room. I tried everything to utilize the old network and just hook the Dell up to it, but that didn't work so I used the XP network wizard to try and configure a whole new network. Because of the way I connect all my pc's to the Internet I chose the following configuration:
Under select a connection method: I selected other
Under other Internet connection methods I selected: This computer connects to the Internet directly or through a network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the Internet directly or through a hub.
Computer description DELL, and name: ,JIM
Workgroup Name: MSHOME
File and printer sharing is turned on
Then it configures the settings and I select the: Just finish the wizard and set up the other two pc's with the same settings.
As soon as I try and view the computers in the workgroup from the Dell pc it tells me that I am not authorized to view the MSHOME workgroup.
The old office pc hooked directly to the Fios Modem only sees itself and the pc in the living room which is connected to the Vonage VoIP router, like the Dell, sees the Dell pc but cannot access it. The Dell pc never gets far enough to actually allow me to view the network workgroup, or if it even is truly apart of a network. I have also tried setting it up on a different network all by itself, but the same error message happens.

All the pc's are running XP Home version SP2. I have the windows firewall turned on on the Dell, but I have tried it set to off with them same results. I hope this is helpful and that everyone has a great Thanksgiving

.
