I was directed here by a friend, so hopefully I'll get the help I seek ^_^

Here is the situation, I have two computers and I want both of them to have internet connection. One computers has two NICs; the other one, one. What I'm trying to do is to connect one computer directly, and link the two computers together via the free NIC, hence networking them together. I tried doing this with the wizard provided by WIN XP ("home network"), but to no avail. Help is much appreciated.

What you are talking about doing here is not one of the standard scenarios that the XP Network Setup Wizard (NSW) is likely to be able to deal with. You are using the PC with two network cards as a gateway. What you need to do is set up a connection between the broadband router and one of the network cards in the gateway PC first of all. Once that connection is established and you've verified that the PC can access the Internet, make a note of the IP address range (e.g. 192.168.1.x) and the subnet mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0) and then set up a new network connection (which you can do with the XP NSW) between the second PC and the second network card in the gateway PC. This second network must use a different IP range and a different subnet mask I think.
