DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

I have DSL and often my browser does not load a page. I get the error message that page cannot be displayed or server cannot be found. Sometimes the problem is temporarily "corrected" by disconnecting and reconnecting the DSL by the icon in the system tray and on the desktop. I have changed browsers - Maxthon, IE, Firefox, run AVG Anti-virus, Adaware, deleted tempory files, checked browser security settings, shut down AVG and Zone Alarm, formatted hard drive. I have tried many different sites including Microsoft and Google at various times and have not been able to view those sites in several instances. The sites are up, the performance of the DSL and or my machine is down. I never had this problem before my switch from dial up to DSL five days ago.

Help is much appreciated.

Re: DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

Have you spoken with your DSL provider?

Is the modem an ethernet or USB?

Did you install all the line filters on any and all phone extensions?

Re: DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have spoken many times within the past five days with my DSL provider and they have yet to be of any real help. The modem is an ethernet. Siemiens Speedstream. I did install the microfilter on the one phone line in the building.

I have shut down my computer, disconnected the modem and all lines to the computer overnight, reconnected and booted in the am. Within perhaps 5-20 minutes websites do not appear in the browser. My DSL speed is typically in the range of 3-5 megabytes per second, but certainly that does not help at all when pages do not load.

Re: DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

You mention certain sites. While these sites are unavailable are you able to access other sites?

Who is your ISP?

Also try this for sites that are a problem: go to start/run and type cmd

In the new window (command prompt) type: ping google.com for example.

What shows?

Re: DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

When one site becomes unavailable, every other site I seek is also unavailable. My ISP is Aliant.

There were four replies to Google being pinged with 32 bytes of data.
4 packets sent, 4 received
Approximate round trip: Min. 60ms Max. 61ms Average 60ms

Did A DNS Resolver Flush; issue remains.

Re: DSL & Often Pages Not Loading

My DSL is lightning fast now and that without a miss or a sputter!
Hallelujah, Jesus!
I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and this totally brought about the results I was looking for.
Went to one hundred plus sites from Google (ten to a page) and all loaded very, very fast except that two or three did not load at all. (The latter, of course, is to be expected). Apparently one or more files were corrupted and/or missing and/or there was some sort of conflict that the Service Pack resolved. Rebooted my machine and I was given the same stellar performance after surfing to numerous sites.
Thanks much to each one of you for your suggestions.

jephree, thanks for the thanks.

You did ask me to ping sites that were a problem and report those findings. I gave you results for a site that wasn't a problem when I pinged it. Realized how daft I was *after* I posted. Perhaps, I should say I was both over tired and over anxious.

Anyway, thanks for moderating this forum. I appreciate it more than a little.
