Wireless network problems

Hi, i will start off with explaining the network i currently have set up

first off theres 1 computer in my kitchen, right next to this computer is my broadband cable modem, which is hooked up too a wireless router (D-link 624)
this router then goes via cable to my computer in the kitchen.

The wireless router then transmits the internet into my room (10 metres or less away) my computer in my room is using a D-Link AirPlus XtremeG+ DWL-G520+ Wireless Adapter.

i set this up awhile ago, and was working below standards imo, the internet is often really laggy when both computers are on, (despite no dl's going or anything) and games are sometimes nearly impossible to access via my computer in my room, because of this huge lag i have.

Although the computer in my kitchen runs perfectly and the internet is laggless.

At one stage i was sick of the lag, and decided too run a 10m cable down the hall, to see if it fixed this. But to my suprise even using a cable didnt give me anything over satisfying that didnt last long, because my wife cant stand cables running all over the place.

So, now im stuck with the issue of how to make my wireless internet on my computer lag free and atleast to be able to play a game without getting major lag.

thanks for all the help you can offer to me and my trouble.

Re: Wireless network problems

Please provide a little bit more explanation about what happened when you ran the cable. Did you say with cable the speed was very good, or so so, or no change?

Re: Wireless network problems

If with the cable connected you had the same problem, then chances are it is not becasue of wireless. So, please do the following for a clean start:

Do a system clean up
Do a disk defrag
Do a registery clean up

You said your virsu scan and spyware programs are up to date, so that should not be an issue.

Reduce the number of unnecessary programs that run at startup to bear minimum.
