belkin54g router - disconnected all the time!

Hi!
I'm using a belkin54g router through cables and not wireless but this is what happens...
It works fine for about 20 seconds and then it gets disconnected for like 3 seconds then it continues for 20 secs and so on...So everytime I like visit Youtube, the film only loads for like 20 seconds and then stops loading, the internet comes back but the film is stuck. I'll have to refresh and do it again with the same result. Same thing happens when I play online games and stuff like that. I can't even download anything because the download gets stuck on like 2% or what ever and then it doesn't continue to download.

Anyways..
I'm using Windows Vista if that has got anything to do with anything.
I'm pretty new to routers so be nice and tell me step by step or I'll be lost in the fire

Many older 'G' Based routers may not support VISTA because of a lack of support for IPv6. Check the 'Belkin Networking Support for Windows Vista' section for your MODEL:

Re: belkin54g router - disconnected all the time!

Ok, just had the same issue with my Belkin 54g, and it was a simple fix....

You need to go to this site, as it walks you through changing the channel setting on the router from auto to a set number. The reason for the on/off network is becasue the router is constantly rotating through channels if it interprets interference with the channel its on... thus the constant on, then off, then on again... Cell phones, cordless phones, TV remotes, etc. can mess with the settings and freak it out!

Belkin : Support : Frequent wireless disconnections from the router/AP (Access Point).

Worked like a charm with my HP laptop using Vista 64

Good Luck!
