Can't connect to all 3 on network
I have a small 3 computer home network set up. All three units have xp pro installed.
1 is a laptop, 2 is my wife's and 3 is mine.
Each puter has its own name and the password for each is " "
1, 2 and 3 can see each other BUT only 1 and 3 can transfer files to EACH other and to 2. But 2 can see 1 and 3 but it cannot transfer any data to 1 or 3. All I get is the old error tag:
"You do not have permission to enter, Contact your administrator", or something like that.
I have pulled out my last hair trying to find out what is wrong.
I NEED HELP !
PLEASE

Re: Can't connect to all 3 on network
Are you sure that when it comes to security settings that 2 has the same settings as the other 2? Have you tried disabling any firewall(s)? Is 2 the same kind of connection as the other 2 (ie wireless or ethernet)? Have you ever been able to do this with this computer and if so what have you done to it since?

For best results please:
1) State your OS(s), any software involved in your problem, & any major updates (i.e. service pack, version, edition, service release, roll up, beta release, distribution [Linux], etc.) to your OS/software as applicable to your problem.
2) For hardware issues also provide your system information: RAM, processor, etc. in addition to your OS.
3) If you have more than one OS on your computer, how does your problem relate to your other OS(s)? This is especially important for hardware issues.
4) Provide as much detail as possible, being specific as even the most minute detail could help others help you solve the problem. Please tell us what you have tried. Please tell us the make/model of your computer.
5) Respond with the result(s) of the suggestion(s) from the other users to provide feedback, even if this only means saying "this worked!"
If you don't know your system information please consider running our hardware scan and post or PM me your link.

Re: Can't connect to all 3 on network
Thanks for the input.
#2 has just been rebuilt and I don't know about the security settings. I will attempt to find them, but I really don't know where they are. Help please!
I do not know if there are any firewalls installed. nor where to find them.
All are connected together thru a hub, ethernet.
yes i did have the system working before then one crashed and i had to totally rebuild, new motherboard and hd included.
awaiting your thoughts, thanks H

Re: Can't connect to all 3 on network
Make sure that the little box next to "ALLOW NETWORK USERS TO CHANGE MY FILE" has a check mark. (on computer 2)

This is a setting for the computer you are trying to write to.

This seems to indicate that 2 doesn't have permission to write to the other computers. bkdc Your suggestion probably isn't valid because both 1 & 3 can write to it. h jaycox you can try his suggestion but I think that you need to look at how you have 1 & 3 configured to communicate & their permissions for each other and replicate it for 2 on each. Read this help article on how to enable file sharing on XP. Did you set this up previously or did someone else do this for you?
I also strongly suggest that you change your password because 1) it isn't a secure password and 2) You have posted it in a public place. I believe that you have to have a password before XP will allow file sharing for security reasons. Having no password or an unsecure/weak password with file sharing enabled opens you up not only for file stealing but also for malicious actively such as virus planting. The only exception to this is if your network is not connected to the internet. Does this make sense?
