Wireless Router - No Internet

hi, i have just purchased a wireless router for the internet, i have connected it all up got the ip adress,subnet mask etc, and its saying i am conected to the internet but does not connect and brings up the no connection page, can you please give me directions on how to correct this. please note i am not a computer wizz, so laymans terms please. Thank You

Laptop, or desktop.
Can you connect, if you wire the computer straight to the modem?
Any other computers connected to the same router?
If so, can they connect?

Hi Thank you for your response. Sorry I did'nt give you enough info, so here goes.
I've got a laptop with a built in WLAN thingy, so i am wireless. i purchased an adsl wirless router and this plugs into the phone line as you may know. its all connected up and i have a strong signal and i am connected, but it will not connect me to the internet. I hope this helps you help me lol. Thank You
