NAS share over internet?
Hi all,
A friend has got a NAS on his network and wants me to be able to access it over the internet using FTP. He is quite paranoid about security however because I mentioned that he might have to open port 21 on his router for me to be able to connect. What he would like is the ability to only allow my IP address through his router to be able to connect to his NAS.
So a couple of questions:
1. Is the above even possible?...I mean even if I talk him into letting traffic through port 21 will it even work then? Am I wasting my time or are there any other steps I need to take to connect?
2. Is it possible to only allow certain IPs through a routers firewall? He has a Netgear a fairly new one. (I will find out the exact model router and edit my post here.)
