serial numbers

i have a toshiba satellite 2610 offered to me without the serial number (removed from the rear). is there a serial number inside to help find out if it stolen

sat 2610 CDT. Well I've tried the Toshiba's stolen worldwide site and the registration site for more info, but it looks like there is no way of ascertaining it's true status without the serial number.

I would have thought they would record the mobo number at least.

May I congratulate you on your integrity and honesty (unless you're just plain scared).

Best bet is boot it up and see what information the previous owner has left on it, who knows he may even have installed software that dials the police when you connect online..... now there's an idea - hand it in wait 6 months and it's yours :-) or is there a shady geezer trying to sell it?

thanks - the geezer i am buying it off is a mate (whom i would trust) The software is all fine , I thought there was a location inside the thing were the company placed another serial number :confused.

Can you access the BIOS btw? If it's password protected and you haven't got the PW it may create problems later.

There are various serial numbers on a PC - the one I would have expected would have being the mobo, but as I said (not a definitive answer) I couldn't find anything further than the ser no you don't have - my advice - buy it and enjoy!
