5.1 Speakers (rear speakers dont sound)

I'm using a 5.1 Speakers device. Before, I was able to hear all the speakers but now I can only hear front speakers and center but I cant hear rear ones. I've installed my Sound Blaster Live! audio card driver and it still don't work.

Any recomendations?

Re: 5.1 Speakers (rear speakers dont sound)

Do you know what changed just before you stopped being able to hear the rear speakers. For example, did you move the PC to a different room and perhaps reconnect the speakers differently?

The connection is certainly the first thing that I'd check. Different 5.1 systems get connected in different ways. The green, blue and pink connectors on your sound card don't always get hooked up in the way that might be most obvious. Check the documentation for the Sound Blaster card for further details.

Also check that the speakers are all connected to each other correctly and securely. Many systems work with the satellite speakers all being connected into the subwoofer box. Make sure the lead for each satellite speaker is connected into the correct hole.

Once you've checked that all the hardware is connected in the right way, if you still have problems, look at the software application(s) that came with the Sound Blaster card. There may be a configuration screen where you need to select whether you are using headphones, 2 speakers, 2.1 speakers, 5.1 speakers, etc.

Yep, this solved the problem for me last year when I setup my 5.1 speakers and Live! 24-bit card. You also need to check the following:

1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
2. Double-click on Sounds and Audio Settings
3. Click on Advanced
4. Make sure your speaker settings are on 5.1
