Re: Hard Drive

You should try fitting the new motherboard and see if the PC starts up but, normally, you would have to format the hard drive (wipe everything off of it) and install Windows and all of the new motherboard drivers, along with your programs and data.

As a general rule, it's normally best to have the fastest hard drive as the primary master hard drive that has Windows installed on it - the fastest hard drive out of the two will typically also be the newest one.

Re: Hard Drive

Well the problem is that, after fitting a new motherboard and then trying to start the PC off of the old Windows installation, the PC might not be able to get into Windows at all - it's quite common to get blue screens and error messages that cause the system to stop before it finishes starting.......... so you wouldn't be able to get to any of your data.

Re: Hard Drive

Yeah, I know - sorry for the bad news but it's the same problem for all of us

It's worth giving it a try though - it might work and, as long as you don't format the hard disk or anything crazy like that, you've got nothing to lose and it's worth a try
