Greetings again, I am trying to help a friend over the phone who is having trouble booting her system. (She has recently uninstalled Weather Bug and hasn’t been able to boot back into Windows XP since).
The PC will automatically bring up the well known options of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, ect.) I believe that she had said that it also gives her the option of using the System Restore. Problem is, the system restore will not access any of its past save points, negating that option, and when booted into Safe Mode. The mouse is movable on the screen but nothing is selectable. I was thinking that without the use of the mouse I might be able to use the CMD Prompt. Is there a way to access System Restore through DOS or maybe fix the boot.ini without having to reinstall windows?
I had searched and saw that Jephree had stated this:
“I would start with first things first. So use your old PS2 keyboard & try to figure out the boot problem first.
I see this as a possible hardware conflict. Go ahead & start in Safe Mode:
go to Start | Run | msconfig
check the boot.ini config (nothing should be checked)
then check the start-up tab: do you see anything unusual there?
Also: check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager for any "!"
Also: look in your event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details. Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a boot.”
Problem is: Most of these options have to be made with access to windows. Which I cannot access, even in safe mode.
End note: There is a blue screen that flashes but is too quick to read, so as far as relaying the message to you all, I cant.
Thank you in advance
