Wont work?

hello i have a petuim 3 with 1000mhz cpu, 20gb harddrive, 256mb ram. made by ibm. there is no operating progarm on there. when i turn it sometimes it just come up with nothing and the screen light flashs and other times it comes up with IBM and then doesnt do anything?

When you say: "there is no operating progarm on there." should there be? Was XP installed?

Do you have an XP CD? What is the exact model & # of the IBM machine?

No i wiped the harddrive and i am unsure because i can get 2 the bios or anything. the power went out i think that is has done something? i have an xp disc

Will the XP CD boot?

Do you know the key to enter the BIOS?

Possibly:

IBM® F1
IBM E-pro Laptop F2
IBM PS/2® CTRL+ALT+INS after CTRL+ALT+DEL

Check the boot menu to have the CD boot prior to the hard drive & then try to boot the XP CD.

ok i unplugged everthing and pluged it back in. i tryed the windows 98 disk and floppy start up disk and xp disk and none work.i start up the computer and it says IBM and sometimes it says in corner press f1 to enter setup but then when i press f1 nothing happens. also the floppy drive makes that noise when u start

I would suggest keep trying the F1.

Sometimes the timing of pressing the key is important.

From the power-on keep repeatedly tap tap tapping F1.

Then try try again.

i tryed that a fair few times when i turn on the pc the keyboard lights flash then numlock stays on it also makes the floppy drive make that noise and the cd light flashs. is there anything else 2 do? wat do u think the problem is?

If neither floppies nor CD's will boot & you cannot access the BIOS setup I don't know where to turn except the manual.

What is the exact model & # of the IBM machine?

Perhaps the manual will have some troubleshooting tips. Perhaps you can open & clean it; perhaps the board has jumpers to clear the CMOS.

How did you wipe the hard drive & what exactly happened with the power outage?

What were you doing? Did the power fail while you were formatting?

no i was on the computer on the net and then the power went out and this happened i wiped the hd on anthor computer. and i dont no wat model it is and i dnt have the manaul

At this point my only idea is to take it to a repair shop. Sorry.

I will move this thread to the hardware section & maybe someone else may have an idea.
