nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

Hello, I've recently encountered problems with my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 video card. I was signing onto aol when my monitor started flashing. I was going to reformat that day, so I figured that might fix It anyway(wasn't exactly sure of the problem at the time). After I reformatted and was re-installing my drivers, my monitor started flashing again, and then froze. I rebooted, only to find a blue screen(the one where at the bottom It wil say something like STOP: 0000000005675x or whatever digits) telling me a problem has been encountered with my computer. I go into safe mode, and when I log on, It tells me the video display driver caused the problem. So I uninstalled it, and kept trying to reinstall It; but no luck. I'm still under warranty for my computer, so can dell replace the video card? or Is there another way to fix It? I own a dell dimension 4600, with the XP home edition OS- and I'm an 'advanced' PC user. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I've called Dell and apparently my hard drive Is bad, so they're sending a new one. I don't really need a reply to this thread anymore. Just Is someone could explain how that works, It'd be nice. Btw, I specifically remember the stop code was STOP: 0x000000EA(0's might be too less/many) and when I ran the diagnostics test It failed with a return code of 7. ::shrug::

0x000000EA: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)

A device driver problem has caused the system to pause indefinitely (hang). Typically, this is caused by a display driver waiting for the video hardware to enter an idle state. This might indicate a hardware problem with the video adapter, or a faulty video driver.

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

I assume Dell was responding to the Code 7 of the Dell diagnostic?

The 0x000000EA is an XP error as described above.

I don't know the Dell diagnostic but I guess they do

If you want to check your own drive look at Disk Management: Start/Run/ diskmgmt.msc

Is the drive seen as Healthy?

Also if you know the manufacturer of the drive you can run their diagnostic.

This scan will ID it under Drives: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

And here is a list of the major manufacturers:

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

You can also check your dump logs:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

Then:

1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

I would still run the manufacturers' diagnostic on your hard drive.

As to that dump: you should download SP2 & all subsequent Critical Updates form Windows Updates.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Stop Error: 0xc0000415 When You Run Windows XP

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

Okay, sorry for not responding for awhile.

A technician came over today and put in the new hard drive. However, whenever I reboot and the graphics card driver(nvidia geforce fx 5200) Is installed, all that happens Is "Cannot Display in this Video Mode". It's frustrating and I've gotten ditched by the people outsourced for Dell three times today.

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

So they installed the hard drive & left you with this problem?

Was XP reinstalled? SP2 loaded? Were the NVIDIA drivers reinstalled?

You could also try Safe Mode & lower the Screen Resolution.

start / control panel / display / settings

What else have you tried? What did the other guys say?

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

I've tried so much stuff the past two weeks. >_>; Um well, yeah the technician was kind of being a jerk, and he knew that I knew how to reformat and install stuff, so he went ahead and left. And I didn't have sp2 earlier and haven't downloaded It because I've tried It before and It kind of seemed to only make things worse(I had random little problems I didn't feel like fixing). And yeah, It only happens when the nvidia drivers are up and enabled. I've tried changing screen resolutions. But basically after the first person I called today got the driver installation to fully work, he got off the phone saying there wasn't anything more he could do. The second person had me try all the exact same things which were installing the drivers differently and such. The third one said something that something was interferring with the driver and I asked him to repeat what he said quite a few times because I couldn't understand him untill he finally said he'd call back in 10 minutes(never did) and hung up.

Re: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 problem

Do you still have that Dell diagnostic? Just a reminder that your previous errors were graphics/drivers related.

Just to clarify: when do you get the "Cannot Display in this Video Mode" error? After the BIOS? Before XP loads?

Is the only way into XP thru Safe Mode? Have you checked the card in the Device Manager? Looked for errors there & or update drivers from there?

Perhaps something here will help:
