External Hard drive- help!!!!

Hi,
I've just bought an external hard-drive, which I'd like to use in conjunction with my Compaq Pressario laptop.
I want to use my hard drive from my old laptop, whose DVD/CD drive expired. Basically my question is; I've purchased an enclosure, and have fitted the old hard-drive into it, I guess there is only one way for it to connect into the enclosure? The USB leads were plugged in, for both Power and information transfer. The computer tells me that it has recognised the USB. But, when I look at "My Computer" the exrnal hard drive icon doesn't look right. It's as if it's in another format. Therefore I don't seem to be able to look at any of the old HD's information. Can anyone help me with this???

Regards

Dave

Re: External Hard drive- help!!!!

Are you certain that all the connections are proper?

A laptop hard drive would be an SCSI connection. Does your enclosure support this?

Perhaps you need an adapter? (Such as this):
