Computer requires several resets before booting to XP

Hi, I had to replace the mobo on my system recently (ASUS K8N-E Deluxe) and now it doesn't always boot up to XP Pro. It goes through the POST, and then hangs, either with a blank screen or occasionally a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I can press the reset button and then it will boot okay, though sometimes it requires more than one reset, and occasionally I have to switch off the power completely. But eventually it does boot up okay. It's as if it doesn't look for the HDD after the POST - there's no sign of HDD activity. Any ideas, anyone?
There's also another oddity, in that my memory (2 GB) now runs only at 333 MHz, whereas before, with the old mobo, it ran at 400 MHz. I updated the BIOS to try to resolve this, but that had no effect. Any ideas on this one, too? Many thanks.

Re: Computer requires several resets before booting to XP

Did you run a Clean Install of XP on this motherboard?

If not you need to.

As to the speed:

What CPU are you using?

Also is there any difference if you only use one 1GB stick?
