Screen problem

I keep getting these lines on the screen, there come on like 4 sections but there not always there. If i fiddle about the connecter at the back of the PC they go away like if i push it up or down.

I have a TFT i have tryed a old montior in and there was the same problem. Sorry if the info is abit vain.

Re: Screen problem

If fiddling around with the cable/connection varies the picture then it must be the cable or connection. Since you tried two monitors have you tried two different cables?

Re: Screen problem

I mean which ever one you are fiddling with.

Probably a VGA or DVI cable.

You would need to get another one.

Re: Screen problem

If it does the same thing on two monitors and fiddling with that cable has the same affect I would bet that that cable needs to be replaced. Yes.

Re: Screen problem

Could be. Does fiddling with the cable/connection have any affect in this situation? If so it might be the card port that is failing.

You might also try and reseat the card inside the computer if you are comfortable in opening the case.

Re: Screen problem

Is it an AGP card or is it an on-board connection?

If card I would remove it and then reseat it. If it is a card you will see a screw holding the card to the case frame. Remove this screw and pull the card from the slot. While you are at it you might gently clean the connections with some Alcohol on a soft cloth (do not touch the connectors with your hand) and perhaps blow out the slot (gently) with some canned air.

Also inspect the pins where the cable plugs in for any looseness or other damage.
